Se está acercando el 17 de abril de 2018, una de las fechas, quizás no tan deseada, pero sí de vital importancia para estar en cumplimiento como ciudadano. Esta es la fecha que tenemos que cumplir con nuestra responsabilidad de rendir la planilla de contribución sobre ingresos.
Aunque para nadie resulta de suma felicidad acudir a su médico, es importante que sepa que esos gastos en los que tuvo que incurrir para el cuidado de la salud pueden resultar en un alivio contributivo al momento de calcular las deducciones de su planilla del 2017. Así que llegó el momento de buscar las cajas de zapatos que tiene en su cuarto (o donde sea que guarda todos sus recibos) una calculadora y comience a sumar aquellos gastos médicos que tuvo durante el año. Valga aclarar que, aunque hayamos incurrido en una gran cantidad de gastos médicos, no todos podrán ser tomados como una deducción bajo este renglón.
La primera pregunta que le surge a usted es la siguiente: ¿Qué gastos médicos se pueden deducir?
- Servicios profesionales brindados por médicos, dentistas, radiólogos, patólogos clínicos, cirujanos, enfermeras, o por hospitales, dentro y fuera de Puerto Rico, los cuales no hayan sido compensados o reembolsados por algún plan médico;
- Primas pagadas por concepto de seguros contra accidentes o enfermedad, lo cual incluye, pero sin limitarse a, primas de seguros médicos y de distintas enfermedades, como, por ejemplo, el cáncer;
- Medicinas adquiridas mediante receta médica y despachadas por un farmacéutico licenciado en Puerto Rico; y
- Compra de equipo de asistencia tecnológica para personas con impedimentos.
Ahora le surge la interrogante de cómo determinar la cantidad de gastos deducibles. Para el año contributivo 2017 la deducción permitida será la cantidad total pagada como gasto médico, en cualquiera de los renglones anteriormente indicados, que exceda el seis por ciento (6%) del ingreso bruto ajustado.
Enfermarse nunca es buena noticia. Sin embargo, poder recobrar alguna cantidad incurrida en gastos médicos y aliviar su bolsillo, sí lo es. Hoy, comience esa búsqueda de recibos para que conozca la deducción a la que tiene derecho.
